City of Montreal plans to create over 5000 housing units in newly dubbed Quartier des faubourgs
As a result of Molson-Coors putting its Molson brewery up for sale and the soon-to-be abandoned Radio-Canada building, the area around the corner of Notre-Dame St. and Papineau Ave. will become a focal point for residential development.
For that reason, last June, the city of Montreal launched a public consultation process, dubbed Quartier des faubourgs, with the possibility of developing more than 5,000 housing units in the east end of downtown.
The study area under this new Special Planning Program (SPP) encompasses the heart of the Center-Sud district. , the Village, as well as the Jacques Cartier Bridge and the St. Lawrence River.
