Montreal patrol officers to receive one day training in dealing with people suffering from mental health issues

Montreal police (SPVM) will ensure that within the next three years all its patrol officers complete a one-day course that will help them deal with people suffering from mental health issues or are in a moment of crisis.
The announcement made at this Tuesday’s public city security committee hearing didn’t satisfy activists and community workers, who complained that one-day training is not sufficient.
The city of Toronto requires its police officers to complete a three-day course which incorporates, de-escalation, dialogue, and containment.
