You may soon have one more reason to leave your car at home after a blizzard. The city of Montreal will study the possibility of decreeing free public transport following a snowfall of at least 20 cm.

Two reasons why this makes sense the first is safety, the number of accidents during and after a snowstorm increases by 30 per cent. Second, snow removal would be more efficient with fewer vehicles on the road.

Elected, Marvin Rotrand has estimated that such a measure would cost 1.5 million per day. With 2 to 4 major storms per winter, the measure could cost 3 to 6 million per year.
