Mount Royal’s “secret pool” will not reopen for the summer – Family of donor demands city keep its promise
The grandson of the patron who donated the “secret pool,” is demanding that the city keep its promise and restore his grandfather’s gift, which has been left abandoned since 2013.
The Henry William Morgan Pool, located next to the Allan Memorial Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) was donated in 1961 and is the only public swimming pool in the Ville-Marie borough.
“I want the public swimming pool to reopen so everyone can enjoy this wonderful and happy place,” Morgan.
Charles S. Morgan, the grandson of the donor, told the Journal de Montréal, that there has been no news since the Mayor’s election campaign.
Mayor Valérie Plante promised during the election campaign to reinstate the pool perched on the side of Mount Royal, but it will not be for this summer.
“There is no set agenda for the moment, and we will certainly consult Montrealers on this subject. All this must fit in harmoniously with the development of this whole area, “said the Mayor’s spokesperson Ms. Geneviève Jutras.
The group Friends of the Royal Victoria Pool have been campaigning for the reopening of the “secret pool” since 2014 and in 2016 filed a brief with the Office of the Public Consultation of Montreal (OCPM).
