National Magazine Lists Deux-Montagnes as Quebec’s Best Community: Montreal 296th Across Canada
According to Maclean’s Magazine, “Best Communities in Canada”, Quebec’s best two options are the Greater Montreal suburbs of Deux-Montagnes and Blainville, which respectively came in 48th and 51st in the 415 communities across the country.
The national magazine selected, short health care wait times, affordable child care and a thriving cultural scene in its big cities as Quebec’s strong points. Counterbalanced by high taxes, sluggish population growth and high unemployment rates compared to other parts of the country.
Methodology used for the list awarded points to the communities based on 10 categories: wealth and economy, affordability, population growth, taxes, commute, crime, weather, access to health care, amenities and culture.
Of the 415 best Canadian communities on the list, 103 are from Quebec, with Westmount as the third-best community and the 51st best in Canada.
It (Westmount) has the highest level of community engagement in the country, according to Environics Analytics, and the third-highest percentage of people who work in the arts, with 5.1 per cent of the population employed in the industry.
Maclean’s
Trois-Rivières, the 4th pick and overall No. 67 wins points for its affordability. Per the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, rents didn’t go up at all last year and the average home property is just $212,000.
The city of Sherbrooke, located in the eastern townships, placed fifth in the province and 68th overall. Montreal, is listed 64th in Quebec and in the lower half of Canada’s best Communities at 296th.
