Ensemble Montreal the opposition at city hall wants Montreal to be accountable for pothole damages to your car.

The Quebec Cities and Towns Act, declares cities are not liable for damage to a vehicle’s tires and suspension caused by a pothole.

Ensemble Montreal will table a motion at the next city council meeting asking the Quebec government to modify the law. Hopping the changes will put pressure on cities to invest more in road repairs.

If the motion is passed it will be a welcome relief for those taxpayers who have suffered hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars in repairs to their cars.

No price tag for the motion was provided.
